Poetry (Day 8): Biography

washing line

Clothes pegged out
 on the washing line.

My family’s story
told in fabric and colours,
buttons and logos.

Business shirts beside
school uniforms.
Cricket whites, straight and
sensible, playing with purple
and gold leotards.
A summer dress.
Thomas the Tank Engine on
a child sized apron.

My family’s story
punctuated with blotches
of good and bad
that I wouldn’t
wash away if I could.

Clothes pegged out
on the washing line,
dancing as one
in the breeze.
